Finding Dexcom G7 Continuous Glucose Monitors in Japan and My Personal Tips to Use Them

Wed 14 August 2024 diabetes / t1dm / t2dm / type 1 / type 2 /

1. What is this about?

If you are a diabetic person (especially type 1), you know measuring and strictly controlling your blood glucose will have serious consequences on your overall well-being. Personally, I also struggle to access the newest diabetes tech. Recently, I got the chance to test the Dexcom G7 Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM). Using a CGM can significantly help you regulate your blood sugar levels and reduce your hA1C levels i.e. a metric used to assess your 3-month-average blood glucose levels.

Currently, I am writing this blog post from my hometown in Turkey. I will be back in Japan around 45 days later. I will update here as I will start using Dexcom G7 (or perhaps I could try G6s too) in Japan.

2. Prices of Dexcom G7 in Japan

As of today (Aug 14, 2024), I found some sellers on Amazon that sell the device for a little cheaper than official prices

In Japan, officially the Dexcom G6 and G7 CGMs were used to be sold by a distributor but I found out that Dexcom decided to enter Japanese market by themselves (Source). The prices recommended by the distributor company were used to be around 30000 JPY monthly for 3 sensor kits which will cover your measurements for the 30 days.

Now, I decided to ask my doctor to prescribe me the sensor kits on my next visit. I will update the info when I get them.
